Whether you like it or not, Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain, is a feast, if not for the mind, then at least for the eye. With a smart and overlapping narrative, Aronofsky tells the story of a man (or several), through different times in history (past, present, future), in pursuit of cheating death in order to save his loved one (a wife, a queen, a tree). As Hugh Jackman's futuristic scientist travels through the golden nebula Xibalba, and it finally supernovas, we're treated to a stunning visual sequence: by accepting his inescapable death, his body explodes in a flash of gold, light and motion, rebirthing his dying tree in a fashion words can't do justice.
